Anti-Scam Guide: Protect What Remains
After a major exploit, victims become the primary targets for Recovery Scams. These criminals exploit your urgency to steal what is left of your funds.
The Absolute Truth
- Blockchain transactions cannot be "reversed" by any hacker, tool, or "expert".
- Legitimate authorities (FBI, Europol, Police) will NEVER contact you via Telegram, Discord, or X (Twitter).
- No real recovery processrequires you to pay an "activation fee", "tax" or "gas" upfront.
Red Flags (Instant Block)
If someone contacts you with these claims, they are lying:
"I know a guy on WA/Telegram who can help." - this is a referral scam.
"Your funds are found on a 'private server' and need to be 'unlocked'" - technically impossible.
"We found your money, but you must pay a 10% tax first." - tax is never paid via direct crypto transfer.
"Connect your wallet to this 'Recovery Portal' to claim compensation" - this is a drainer that will empty your wallet.
Common Scam Methods
The "Ethical Hacker" / Recovery Specialist
The Hook:A DM or comment saying they recovered their funds thanks to a specific "expert".
The Reality:The "expert" is the same scammer. They will show you fake "success" screenshots and then ask for a fee for "software tools".
The Impersonator (Fake Support/Police)
The Hook: An account with an official logo messages you claiming to be Drift Support, FBI, or IC3.
The Reality: Official agencies never use DMs. They communicate via official .gov or verified corporate email domains.
The "Exchange Freeze"
The Hook:You are told your stolen funds were "intercepted" by an exchange (Binance, OKX, etc.) and you need to pay a "deposit" to prove ownership.
The Reality: Exchanges handle these matters only through Law Enforcement Requests and official support tickets.
The "Internal Authority" (High-Level Impersonation)
The Hook: A profile claiming to be an "Associate General Counsel", "Head of Product" or "Lead Developer". They post or DM:
We have finalized the reimbursement structure. Formal retroactive compensation plan is in place. Please DM me.
The Reality:Real legal counsel will NEVER discuss individual reimbursement or "specifics of your case" in Telegram/X DMs.
Official plans are always announced via verified, public channels (official blog or primary X account), never through private messages or "pre-announcements" by individual staff members to selected users.
Your Survival Checklist
- NEVER share your Seed Phrase (12/24 words) or Private Keys.
- NEVER pay money to get money.
- IGNORE ALL DMs: If they are not a verified community moderator in the official channel, they are a scammer.
- REPORT & BLOCK: Report every recovery scammer to help protect other victims.
